Top 5 Countertop Trends in San Diego

San Diego homeowners have great taste — and when it comes to countertops, North County kitchens are consistently ahead of the curve. After working on hundreds of installations across San Marcos, Carlsbad, Encinitas, and beyond, here are the five trends we are seeing most in 2026.

1. White and Cream Quartz with Soft Veining

The all-white kitchen is not going anywhere. Calacatta and Carrara-style quartz surfaces with soft grey or gold veining continue to dominate remodel requests throughout North County. Homeowners love the clean, bright look — and with engineered quartz they get the marble aesthetic without the marble maintenance.

2. Waterfall Islands

The waterfall edge — where the countertop material flows vertically down the sides of the island to the floor — has moved from luxury showrooms into everyday remodels. We are seeing this on quartz and quartzite installations throughout North County. When vein matching is done correctly a waterfall island becomes the centerpiece of the entire kitchen.

3. Quartzite Over Marble

Savvy homeowners are discovering quartzite as a natural stone alternative that delivers the dramatic veining of marble with significantly better durability and stain resistance. Super White and Taj Mahal quartzite are two of the most requested slabs we work with right now in San Diego County.

4. Dekton Countertops

Dekton is an ultra-compact, high-performance surface engineered from a sophisticated blend of raw materials fused together using Sinterized Particle Technology (SPT). Probably the hardest of all countertop materials and works extremely well outdoors. It is more heat resistant than granite and quartzite. Many would say its Arga slab looks better than Taj Mahal and it never needs sealing.

5. Dramatic Dark Surfaces

Not everyone is going white. We are seeing a growing appetite for bold, dramatic countertops — deep charcoals, black granite, smoky quartz, and dark soapstone-look surfaces. These materials make a powerful design statement and pair beautifully with light cabinetry for high contrast kitchens.

At Rock-It Surfaces we carry materials that cover all of these trends and more. Visit our showroom in San Marcos or browse our gallery to find your inspiration — then request a free estimate to get started.
